Military Pension Services Sector

The Military Pension Services Sector was transferred from the Abu Dhabi Department of Finance to the Abu Dhabi Pension Fund in November 2020, whereas the Fund will be responsible for managing the services of the military pension sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi which are provided to military pensioners and eligible beneficiaries, in addition to the current tasks of managing the civil retirement pension in the Emirate.

Services provided by the Fund to the military pensioners

The Fund provides all its available services through various channels for the military pensioners, as well as the entitled beneficiaries of the deceased military pensioners.​

Services provided by the Fund to the military pensioners

  • The Fund: The Abu Dhabi Pension Fund
  • Military pensioner: A military pensioner is the person who served in a military entity and whose service was terminated and is entitled to a retirement pension under the military pension system in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, as well as the officer whose service ended due to death.
  • The entitled beneficiaries of the military pensioner: the entitled beneficiary is every person for whom a share of the retirement pension is allocated due to the death of the pensioner, including the father of the deceased - the mother - the male and female children - the widow - the widower
  • Father: he must be dependent on his deceased son for his livelihood, and does not work for any government or private entity, and he does not receive any other pension.
  • Mother: the continuation of her marriage to the father of the deceased, or that she has not married since her husband’s death, or that she is still divorced and has not married after her divorce.
  • The widow:
    • Before the 1st of January 2008, the widow who did not marry after the death of her retired husband and does not receive a pension from any entity.
    • As of 1st of January 2008: the widow who did not marry after the death of her retired husband and does not work in any government or private entity or receive another pension.
  • The widower: provided that he is unable to earn due to a medical reason. The medical examination is performed once every two years by the medical committee or upon the committee decision that he is permanently medically unfit.
  • Male children: He must be registered in a school or university, or not working according to an unemployment certificate, or being unable to earn according to the decision of the specialized medical committee.
  • Female children: if she is under 18 years old and registered in a school or university, or she is older than 18 years old, unmarried and does not work for any government or private entity and does not receive another pension.
  • In the event of the military pensioner death, the following procedures must be done:
    • The Fund is notified immediately, and a copy of the death certificate is attached.
    • The heirs provide the Fund with the required supporting documents which include the heirs' instructions according to each case, as follows:
  • The documents required of those entitled to the deceased military retirement pension
  • The heirs (the beneficiaries of military pensioners) , after informing the Fund of the military pensioner death, must provide the following documents:
    • A copy of the death certificate + an inventory of the heritage of the deceased military pensioner.
    • A copy of the family book after its last update.
    • Photocopies of passports and Emirates Identity Cards of the entitled heirs.
    • If there is a legitimate attorney: attach the attorney’s international account number (IBAN) in one of the operating banks in the country. In this case, a copy of the Power of Attorney and the attorney’s identity card must be attached.
    • In the absence of an attorney: the international account number (IBAN) for every pension entitled beneficiary in one of the operating banks in the country.
